SUMMARY:Welcome to Weymouth Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:V.M.C.C. – South Dorset Section\nResume’ of planned rides for the Weymouth Run and Week – 2026\nWelcome to the 2026 Weymouth Week organised by members of the South Dorset Section of the VMCC. It is our pleasure to show you around the lovely county of Dorset. We will be visiting several of our old favourite haunts and showing you many new places.\nThe cost per person has been retained at £5 per person\, whether rider or pillion\, for the week or £1 per person per day.\nWe are again based at the Bagwell Farm Campsite and we thank them for their co-operation and permission in allowing us to use their facilities. One condition which we must all comply with is that the drive down into the campsite must be kept open at all times. When congregating for the morning start we must use the stoned track adjacent to the road. Your assistance with this matter will be much appreciated.\nWe do hope you enjoy your trips around Dorset but should you have any difficulties\, whether mechanical or otherwise\, please speak to the organisers and we will help in any way possible. \nSunday 10th May – This is our Weymouth Run and for today only we start from Weymouth seafront at the Jubilee Clock at 10-30am prompt. Marshalls will direct you to a parking space. Please sign on and collect your route sheets. Marshalls will again direct you as we leave the seafront. Please do as directed for your own safety.\nToday we leave Weymouth and head westwards through the lanes to Abbotsbury where we stop at the Tropical Gardens (DT3 4LA). A nice café/restaurant will be our morning coffee stop. Entry to the café is through the shop and here payment can be made by card only. We next travel on westwards along our famous coast road. Mainly riding on good B class and A class roads on this leg but watch out for the speed cameras. We next visit Lyme Regis (DT7 3QD) again park as the marshalls direct. Plenty of places within the town where lunch can be taken and there will be time for some exploration of the town itself.\nWe then start heading east with a visit to our old faithful of West Bay (DT6 4HA) and here will be our afternoon tea stop. A short hop back along the coast road will lead you back to Bagwell Farm and the conclusion of today’s event.\nTotal mileage today is – 69.4 miles. \nMonday 11th May – Todays run has been organised by member Steve Edgington\n(Chairman of the South Dorset Section). Starting from Bagwell Farm (at 10am prompt for today and the rest of the week) we head northeast. Skirting around Dorchester the lanes will give us excellent views of the countryside. After leaving Hilton we get a\nsplendid view of the school and abbey at Milton Abbas. We go up through the lovely village centre before stopping at The View Café (DT11 0BB) for our coffee stop.\nThe next leg takes us north and on to Compton Abbas Airfield (SP5 5AP). Warning here they only take card payments for whatever you buy. As you take your lunch break there may be some flying taking place. Next we head southwest through the lanes until we get to Glanvilles Wootton Village Hall (DT9 5QF). Regulars will remember\nthat here a group of local ladies will provide tea/coffee and lots of sticky cakes for our delight\, all for the sum of £5 per person. Tea etc. will not be served until 2-30pm. The local villagers have also been invited to similarly indulge and to admire the bikes. This venue is back by popular request.\nA straight run of 23 miles will take everyone back to Bagwell Farm.\nTotal mileage today is – 91.7 miles. \nTuesday 12th May – Todays ride has been organised by member Simon Barker and we thank him for his contribution. We start off going in a circular route via the Abbotsbury Swannery before looping back into Weymouth and to the Caddy Shack Café (DT3 5HZ) for our coffee stop. We then head northwest covering lots of nice scenery until we reach Forde Abbey (TA20 4LU) and take lunch in the café/restaurant.\nTake time to look around if you wish before we do a short hop on to Mapperton House (DT8 3NR) for our tea stop. We have used this venue in the past and it has always been a favourite. Onwards once more we go south to Bridport and once again along the coast road back to Bagwell Farm.\nTotal mileage today is – 83.2 miles. \nWednesday 13th May – Once more we leave Bagwell Farm and through the lanes up over Hardy’s Monument. You may wish to pause a few moments to admire the far reaching views. Onwards we skirt around Dorchester and down to Dewflock Farm (DT2 8NP) for our coffee stop at the Pig Shed Café\, ably looked after by Verity\, the owner. The South Dorset Section meet here every Wednesday morning for a good chat over coffee and nibbles. Next we head eastwards and to the Isle of Purbeck (it is not actually an island) where we visit the Cake House Café at Creech (BH20 5AP) for our lunch stop. Another venue used regularly by the local Sections.\nOnwards once more and through the Bovington Army Camp and on to Athelhampton House (DT2 7LG) for our tea stop. We will be served in the Long Gallery in the restaurant which is part of this stately home. After that we head straight back through Weymouth and out to Chickerell to Bagwell Farm.\nTotal mileage today is – 77.5 miles. \nThursday 14th May – Today we have more stunning views and scenery to be enjoyed. Back over Hardy’s Monument before heading northwest to The Emporium Café at Warden Hill (DT2 9PW). The café combines with an antique establishment. Take time to have a good look around.\nWe go eastwards next and as you approach Cerne Abbas you will see the Cerne Giant on the hillside to your left. Next we go up to Henstridge Airfield (BA8 0TN) for our lunch stop. The café is part of the airfield’s control tower. We may see some flying action.\nWe next go southwards through the lanes to the village of Toller Percorum. In the Village Hall (DT2 0DT) a group of village ladies will be supplying us with much tea and cakes for the sum of £5 each person. Tea etc will not be served before 2-30pm. Just 16 miles will lead everyone back to Bagwell farm.\nTotal mileage today is – 91.2 miles. \nFriday 15th May – The last day of our week and we start by going straight through Weymouth once more before heading north and on to The Crafty Barn Café at Milton Abbas (DT11 0BD). After coffee we go to Bulbarrow Hill\, stop at the viewpoint and on a clear day five different counties are visible. Heading further west we next go to Leigh (DT9 6HL) and the Hann’s abode where Carol will provide lunch for everyone. After lunch will be a direct run back to Bagwell Farm.\nTotal mileage today is – 70.5 miles.\nWe hope you have enjoyed your week with us\, and thank you for your attendance. We will certainly be organising another weeks riding next year and hope to welcome you all back once more.
